7 Criteria for Choosing a Trustworthy Web Design Agency

Team reviewing a project checklist together

There's no shortage of freelancers and agencies offering to 'build you a website.' Here's what actually separates a trustworthy partner from a risky one — a checklist we'd want if we were hiring, too.

1. A real, checkable portfolio

Ask to see live websites they've built, not just design mockups. A live site tells you if they follow through past the pretty picture stage.

2. Transparent, written scope

A trustworthy agency puts the number of pages, features, and revision rounds in writing before you pay anything. Vague promises ('we'll make it great') are a red flag.

3. Clear ownership terms

Confirm in writing that you own the source code and domain after final payment. Some cheap providers quietly retain control, holding your site hostage for future 'maintenance fees.'

4. A realistic timeline

Be wary of both extremes: '24 hours, full website' is usually a template with your logo slapped on, while '3 months for a landing page' suggests poor project management.

5. Mobile-first proof

Ask to see their past work on an actual phone, not just a laptop screen. Most Vietnamese shoppers browse on mobile — an agency that hasn't optimized for that isn't paying attention.

6. Post-launch support terms

What happens when something breaks a week after launch? A reliable agency states this clearly — free bug fixes for a defined period, then paid support after.

7. References you can actually contact

A confident agency will connect you with a past client, not just show you a testimonial screenshot. If they hesitate, that's worth noting.

The cheapest quote is rarely the best deal once you factor in ownership disputes, missed deadlines, and sites that need a full rebuild within a year.
